Welcome for New RVI Urgent Treatment Centre
As a member of the Council’s Health and Social Care Scrutiny Committee, Cllr Pauline Allen was invited, along with colleagues, to visit the new Urgent Treatment Centre at the RVI before it opened its doors to the public. The Centre is located next to the main Emergency Department at the RVI, so patients can have access to other departments in the RVI if needed.
The impressive new facility aims to help those who need medical care quickly for minor injuries such as fractures and sprains, and other non-emergency conditions. It will take pressure off the accident & emergency department, leaving it to deal with more serious and life-threatening conditions. It will also help to reduce the need to leave patients waiting for hours on trollies in A&E.
Speaking after her tour of the new facilities, Pauline said: “This will be a great addition to health services in Newcastle. Back in 2021, I broke my ankle in several places and spent many hours on a trolley waiting for treatment and I saw first-hand the pressures in A&E. Urgent Treatment centres can help alleviate these pressures, ensuring all those who need medical help can access it in the most appropriate setting.”
The service is open 7 days a week and is a Walk In Centre but patients are asked to first check with NHS 111 for advice on where is best to deal with their medical needs. Click the button below for a useful list of who to contact if you have a medical problem.
There are other Urgent Care Centres situated at Ponteland Road, Cowgate and Molineux Street, Byker.
