Road Safety North West of High Street, Fawdon & West Gosforth

In recent years, alterations to traffic volumes and specific modifications on Gosforth High Street have resulted in a noticeable increase in traffic flow into the neighbouring streets located to the northwest of the High Street, particularly in the Regent Road area. Drivers are increasingly using these adjacent routes to avoid congestion on the main thoroughfare. This issue has been compounded by the restriction that prohibits right turns into Salters Road for vehicles travelling southbound. The combined effect of these changes has created significant challenges for residents. Among the problems reported are damage to vehicles, frequent stand-offs between drivers, vehicles travelling at speeds exceeding the 20mph limit, and intense arguments between motorists. These ongoing concerns highlight the pressing need to address road safety and traffic management in the affected areas.
