Improve Road Safety in Newcastle

Road safety is not a high enough priority for city transport planners, putting us all at risk

Across the city, road safety is not viewed as a priority, with a range of complex, often unnecessary, and frequently unpopular schemes brought forward, instead. Too often, it takes a serious action to happen before the Council will choose to act. We believe that road safety issues for all road users- pedestrians, drivers, cyclists, young and old- should be addressed before accidents happen, not after. Safer road designs and better preventative measures should be prioritised, with feedback from local residents about their area taken into account in scheme design.

Improve Road Safety in the City

We, the undersigned, believe that road safety is not a priority for the Council. Too many streets in the city are plagued by speeding and high traffic volumes, putting motorists, pedestrians, cyclists and all road users at risk of accidents. We call on the Council to take urgent action to address road safety on residential streets, investing in a safe, inclusive environment for all.
