Save Our Parks & Green Spaces

Fenced off bridge in Jesmond Dene

Many residents have raised concerns about the current state of Jesmond Dene, Exhibition Park and Brandling Park. It is now a year since the Council took back control of the parks from Urban Green. Things were bad then, and they have not improved since.

James, Philip and Peter have made many requests for action on closed bridges, broken fences and fallen trees in the Ouseburn in Jesmond Dene, along with the fenced off play area in Exhibition Park and the poor maintenance of parts of Brandling Park. Many of the buildings in our parks are also in a poor state of repair.

Enough is Enough

Fellow Lib Dem councillors report similar issues in other parks and green spaces across the city. Together, we have said “enough is enough” and are calling on the Council to come up with a detailed plan for investment in our parks and play areas as soon as possible to stop further decline.

James, Philip and Peter met recently with Council bosses to ensure that all the issues across all our local parks are included. At the meeting, officers said that it might take until March for them just to complete a “condition survey” across al parks. Only then will they start to come upon with a plan for repairs.

This is not good enough - so we have launched a campaign to push the Council into action. Follow the link to sign the petition: https://www.newcastle-libdems.org.uk/campaigns/save-our-green-spaces
