Residents Urge Changes to X47 Bus Route and Shelters
Local Lib Dem campaigner John Mansfield has renewed calls for the X47 bus route along Windsor Way in Kingston Park to be revised. Many local residents have highlighted the problem that currently the X47 buses heading into town have no bus shelters at the two Windsor Way stops for south- and westbound journeys. While there are shelters on the opposite side of the road, this makes it difficult to use the bus in winter when it is raining, cold, and windy.
The simplest solution would be for the X47 route to change slightly. The route towards the Great Park could stay as it is, while the route towards town could loop along Kingston Park Road to Brunton Lane, turn left into Windsor Way to visit both sheltered stops, then rejoin Kingston Park Road before heading down Brunton Lane towards Kingston Park Metro.
An alternative solution would be to build new shelters on the current route, but this would be more expensive. We have contacted Nexus to help find a solution with Stagecoach and the City Council.
Liberal Democrats say Newcastle deserves better public transport. They want a fully integrated network between the Metro and buses, and cheaper fares for young people to encourage the habit of using public transport. Better public transport could lead to fewer cars on the road and a cleaner, greener environment. Our city is grinding to a halt as roadworks and increasing traffic create chaos, while pavements and cycle lanes are neglected and unsafe.
Newcastle deserves better than a Labour council that has lost its way on transport.
