Regent Farm First School rebuild gets the green light
Local councillors Peter Lovatt, Rob and John have welcomed the news that plans for a brand-new Regent Farm First School have finally been approved by Newcastle City Council’s Planning Committee.
The project will deliver a modern two-storey school on the existing Wansbeck Road South site, complete with new sports pitches, a multi-use games area, and improved parking facilities. Pupils will remain in the current school building throughout construction, ensuring learning can continue with minimal disruption. Once complete, the old building will be demolished to create more open space for children to enjoy.
It’s been four years since proposals for a rebuild were first put forward, and today’s approval marks a major milestone for the school community. The detached single-storey block that supports children with visual impairments and special educational needs (SEND) will remain, continuing to provide a dedicated learning environment for those pupils.
Cllr Peter Lovatt said: “I’m really pleased for the school that their application has now been granted. It’s taken around four years from conception to permission, and thanks go to the planning committee and officers for their hard work. Ward councillors will stay in close contact to make sure the project runs smoothly and any issues are addressed quickly. We’re delighted to see things moving forward.”
The redevelopment, designed by Bowmer + Kirkland on behalf of the Department for Education, was unanimously backed by the committee. Once complete, the new Regent Farm First School will offer bright, modern spaces designed to give local children the very best start in life.
