"We were told by a doctor that everything was overstretched. It is a serious crisis, " said a Liberal Democrat spokesman.
"There were long queues of ambulances waiting to get into the unit and we're led to believe patients were waiting for a long time.
"The impression we got is that the doctor was ready to quit on the spot. They couldn't cope with the amount of incoming patients."
