Our campaign to improve local council services across Newcastle
Here in Newcastle, the Labour Party seems to be absorbed in "Civic Centre" politics - spending their time fighting each other rather than working hard for local communities.
They keep pulling everything back to the centre, relying on council officers for the detail, so don't have eyes and ears in local communities to see what is really going on.
They don't address the things that really concern local people, like fixing broken roads and pavements, dealing with litter, emptying the bins effectively and ensuring our neighbourhoods are free from graffiti.
As Liberal Democrat councillors we listen to what local people tell us and deal with these Council failings day in and day out. We work all-year-round, not just at election times, to get things done in our communities and get problems resolved.
But more could be achieved if the Council focused more on getting the basics right - making sure that local council services were improved and worked well.
