New Grit Bin Installed on Ashburton Road After Two-Year Campaign

The Lib Dem Focus Team is celebrating a hard-fought success this week, as a brand-new grit bin has finally been installed on Ashburton Road. The bin will serve the nearby shops as well as residents on Otterburn Avenue and Douglas Avenue, providing much-needed support during icy winter conditions.

The team first began campaigning for the grit bin back in December 2022, after residents raised concerns about slippery pavements and difficult winter access. Despite being told that the area “didn’t fit policy”, the team refused to give up.

Through consistent campaigning, regular follow-ups, and community support, councillors and local volunteers continued to press their case to city officers. Their persistence paid off this week, as the council agreed to install the bin just in time for the colder months.

The new grit bin is already proving to be a welcome addition, giving local people peace of mind that their streets will be safer this winter. It’s another example of how dedication and teamwork can deliver practical improvements for the community.
