Mixed messages on mixed recycling

Newcastle Liberal Democrats have discovered that Newcastle Council's Envirocall service has been giving incorrect advice about recycling glass. We can clarify that residents with blue wheelie bins should continue to use the black caddy to hold glass and not mix it with other material in the main body of the bin.

"The Labour-run Council wonders why its recycling record is deteriorating, but giving out duff information to the public must be a big part of it." commented Lib Dem Councillor Gareth Kane, "It appears they can't even get the simplest things right. Residents have been reporting to Liberal Democrat councillors that the bin men emptying the glass in with the other waste, yet officers denied this was the policy until we pushed the matter. "
