Metro line between South Gosforth and Heworth is to be closed on Sunday February 5 to allow for essential maintenance work to take place

The line will shut from 6am until 6pm, when Metro services are scheduled to resume. This means that for the bulk of that day there will be no Metro services through the city centre and through Gateshead.

A frequent replacement bus service, 900, will be operating on the route, calling at all stations. Anyone travelling in the affected area is advised to allow extra time to complete their journey.

The line has to be closed so that Nexus can carry out maintenance work on a set of track points in the Metro tunnels that run beneath Newcastle. They assure us they are packing as much work as possible into that day to avoid a future closure like this. Other works include the clearance of trackside vegetation, graffiti removal and bridge works.
