LOCAL COMMUNITY GROUPS AWARDED GRANTS

The Newburn Ward Committee has awarded grants of more than £9,000 to community groups.
Throckley Bowling Club was awarded £300 and Friends of Throckley & Walbottle Dene received a £2,099 grant to support environmental improvements in the Dene.
The Newburn Community Association's toddlers group received a £1,000 grant to help buy soft toys and educational toys for the young children.
The Association also received a £700 award to buy new storage equipment.
Meanwhile, the Newburn & District Sea Cadets was given a grant of £1,926 towards buying outdoor equipment.
The Walbottle Arts Group has been a £500 grant to help meet the costs of running workshops.
