At Wednesday’s Council meeting, Liberal Democrats Councillors, including James, Philip and Peter, pushed through a motion calling for improvements in the Council's maintenance budget for all parks and play areas.

The motion forces the Labour Cabinet to provide a detailed breakdown of the repairs and maintenance budget for all parks and play areas across the city; create a transparent maintenance standard for all parks across the city; produce a plan that addresses budget gaps and report back annually on the condition of all parks.

The Council meeting demonstrated that the Labour Party are in disarray - this was one of a number of motions where the Liberal Democrats set the agenda for action by the Council.

Cllr James Coles spoke during the debate on parks and commented afterwards that: "It's unlikely that the current Cabinet will do much - the Labour Party are in a mess. However, we can use the agreed motion to push senior Council Officers to come up with a plan to repair our parks and play areas more quickly than otherwise would be the case".
