Labour Refuse to Back Community Efforts to Improve Gosforth Central Park Playground
Labour have refused to back local fundraising efforts to see much needed improvements to our well used and much loved playground.
Our community has stepped up, raising thousands for desperately needed upgrades to our beloved playground, from new flooring to updated equipment. But last month, Labour’s Cabinet refused to commit a single penny of match funding to get the project over the line. Their decision could put the whole thing in jeopardy.
We’re not asking for more than our fair share. We’re lucky that local people are able to fundraise to support local facilities, and no-one is asking for the full costs. All the play area needs is a fraction of the total for refurbishment from the Council to show they’re as committed to the success of Gosforth Central Park as we all are.
For Colin, whose kids play here every week, this isn't just politics: it's personal.
Our park is worth it. Our kids deserve better.
We are campaigning for an urgent change in this position, working with officers and local stakeholders to explore every avenue to secure the funding needed to provide a bright future for all the children that use the play area, whether from Gosforth or beyond. We’re hoping to see progress next month.
