Heaton Cemetery gravestones laid flat

Manor Park councillors have rspoken to many of you who have been upset by the council laying flat hundreds of headstones in Heaton Cemetery. Some residents have described this as “vandalism”.

We asked for an urgent explanation and were told this is due to a citywide risk assessment over unsafe memorials.

Many residents, however, consider this step was necessary and are angry at the lack of communication by the council on the matter. It has come as a shock to those who take great care of family graves at the cemetery and we have made council managers aware of local unhappiness about this unwelcome action.
