Ali Avaei supports the call by Ed Davey to improve GP access in Newcastle upon Tyne Central and West Constituency and across the country. the Liberal Democrats are calling for urgent action to make sure people can see their GP within a week, or within 24 hours if in urgent need.

5 million patients in England waited more than two weeks for a GP appointment in September. Our health service is being run into the ground by this Conservative Government.

Behind these statistics are so many people and families anxiously waiting for an appointment for worrying symptoms. Doctors are working as hard as they can, but they’ve been let down by the Conservatives. Patients are paying the price.

The Lib Dem plan would guarantee people can see a doctor quickly. And we’d introduce a new 24/7 hotline so people could book a GP appointment anytime.
