Don't be misled - EU worth 10 times its cost to the British people

The CBI has calculated that the net benefit from EU membership is somewhere between £62 billion and £78 billion a year. This suggests that households benefit from EU membership to the tune of nearly £3,000 a year - with every individual in the UK around £1,225 better off.

The cost of being in the EU club is one tenth of this. UK's notional contribution to the EU was £17.8bn in 2015, but after deduction of the £4.9 billion UK rebate, the amount the UK actually paid was £12.9 billion. According to analysis by InFacts, the Government then got back £4.4 billion, mainly for farming and the regions, and the private sector received £1.4 billion, mainly for research. Another £816 million was our share of EU aid to developing countries, which comes from the 0.7% of national income we already set aside for this purpose, reducing our contribution to £6.3 billion
