Dr Wendy Taylor’s family history is a powerful reminder of why protecting refugees matters.

Her mother arrived in the UK as an asylum seeker fleeing Nazi Germany.
Later, her family welcomed a family expelled from Uganda under Idi Amin.

These experiences shaped Wendy’s belief that today we must ensure safe and legal routes for genuine asylum seekers and end the abuse and vilification of refugees.

As Liberal Democrat leader Ed Davey recently said: “We are a country of many proud traditions, one of which is offering sanctuary to refugees fleeing war and persecution.”

The Liberal Democrats are calling for a fair and humane asylum system, with safe and legal routes, and an end to the hostility faced by refugees.
