COUNCILLOR OPPOSES PLAN FOR LITTLE GREEN

6 Jan 2010

Another application has been submitted to turn the Little Green in South Gosforth into a private car park.

Councillor Mike Cookson said he was opposing the application because he does not feel the development would be in the best interests of the community.

The application will be considered by the council's development

control committee.

"The Little Green is a popular local spot in the area and many people would not like to see it turned into a car park.

"For the applicant to be able to build the car park, they must not only gain planning permission but then get the council to sell a very valuable piece of public open space.

"I cannot see this happening."
