Children, Education and Families
Investing in the Future
The measure of a successful society is the ability to create opportunity across generations. When we fail our children, we are failing the future.
The Case for Detached Youth Work
The Council frequently finds itself spend substantial sums dealing with the symptoms of decline instead of investing in prevention. Nowhere is this clearer than the decimation of funding for youth work in our local communities.
- We will seek every opportunity to invest in more high-quality, community-based youth work, to support our city's young people to thrive.
- We will move interventions out of the Civic Centre and onto local streets, into community hubs, and across every part of the city.
Securing the Skills for a Thriving Economy
We will deliver the national Liberal Democrat vision of "securing the talent and skills Britain needs to thrive". Education shouldn't be a conveyor belt for the status quo; it should be an engine for mobility.
- We will close the opportunity gap by advocating for fairer funding models, which ensure that schools are not disadvantaged by their postcode.
- We will ensure that our young people are the architects of the new economy, not the victims of it, by supporting skills development in emerging sectors, including AI.
