Save Boots in Kenton

Petition against the closure of Boots the Chemist in Kenton

Rob Austin and the Kenton Ward Liberal Democrats Team are campaigning to save the local Boots pharmacy at Kenton Retail on Halewood Road.

Commenting on the campaign, Rob said: "If Boots, closes in March as planned, residents from Kenton Ward and surrounding areas who attend the two General Practices, at Betts Avenue Medical Centre at the Kenton Centre and the Hillsview Surgery, will face an inconvenient journey to fill their prescriptions. Many of these residents would face a walk or a bus ride to reach an alternative chemist. The closure of Boots would also be a huge loss to the general community in the area as many people rely on it for advice, over the counter medications and other needs."

The Focus Team have started a petition to the North of Tyne Local Pharmaceutical Committee and Newcastle Health and Wellbeing Board to seek assurances that they will ensure a pharmacy service is continued locally should Boots close.

Petition against the closure of the Kenton branch of Boots the Chemist

We the undersigned wish to register our serious concern about the proposed closure of the Kenton branch of Boots the Chemist. This pharmacy is locally well used and supported by the community in Kenton, being near to the medical centre, healthcare provision, and other local shops, and is easily accessible with good transport links. The nearest alternative pharmacies are 20 minutes walk or a bus ride away and are not convenient for local elderly and less mobile residents to access. We ask for an assurance that pharmacy services will continue to be provided on this or a nearby site if Boots closes.’
