NEXUS TO BEGIN BUS REVIEW

1.15.00pm GMT Sun 10th Jan 2010

Transport operator Nexus is to launch a consultation with bus firms to review current services, the Westerhope Transport Forum was told.

Councillor Neil Hamilton explained: "As part of the review Nexus and the bus firms will consider any potential new routes or services and will also identify any gaps that remain.

"These gaps could be covered by Nexus-funded small mini-buses or taxi services."

As a result of this exercise the LinkUp service is unlikely to remain in its current form.

Councillor Hamilton added: "Although the concept of LinkUp is sound there are problems with the service such as the areas to be covered are too large, the vehicles are too big.

"I would support the replacement of the service with taxi-buses and I look forward to a much improved service when the consultation is complete."

Public consultation would begin in March 2010 through ward committees and special events, with a target date for implementation of the changes by April 2011.
