Working and winning for Newcastle

WORK STARTS ON NEW GARDEN

6.15.00pm GMT Sat 9th Jan 2010

Work has started to build a community garden at the Lemington Centre.

The £90,000 scheme has been funded by grants from the Big Lottery Open Spaces Fund, waste management firm SITA and Newcastle City Council.

The garden, which will include a BBQ and play area, will be officially opened in January.

Councillor Lawrence Hunter explained: "In the Spring further planting will take place and if you want to donate towards the cost, perhaps in memory of loved one, please contact the Centre.

"The garden will form the centre piece of this year's Lemington festival in July, by which time it should be looking it's best."
