WINNING PUPILS PRESENTED WITH ENVIRO SCHOOL PROJECT PRIZES

1.16.00pm GMT Sun 10th Jan 2010

Local councillor Joanne Park has presented the winners of a schools environmental project with their prizes.

The Lemington Ward Committee gave funding to St George's RC Primary, Lemington Riverside Primary and Waverley Primary to run the Enviro Schools programme.

The pupils looked at environmental problems within the ward, particularly dog fouling, littering, fly tipping and graffiti.

The children took part in designing posters that gave a clear message to the public - that this inappropriate behaviour is not acceptable within Lemington and people need to be more responsible for their actions.

They also looked at how this impacts on people and what can be done to help improve things.

A winner form each school was chosen winning them each a voucher and the posters are currently being made into signs that will be displayed throughout the ward.

Councillor Park said: "This has been an excellent and rewarding project that encourages participation form local schools to help promote positive messages throughout the community.

"I would like to thank all the people in the project and look forward to seeing the signs up, and working with everyone in future projects."
