SORT OUT THE NUMBER 10 BUS, SAY LIB DEMS

10.07.00pm GMT Mon 1st Dec 2008

Liberal Democrat councillors have called on Stagecoach to improve the Number 10 bus route.

Lemington Councillor Lawrence Hunter said he had received many calls from local residents demanding action on the service, which connects West Denton Park to West Denton shops, the General Hospital and the city centre.

Councillor Hunter said: "I have been inundated with complaints. Passengers have reported lateness and cancellations.

"The other big problem is the age of the buses. There are no low liners on the route and lots of elderly people have only this service as a way into Newcastle."

Ron Beadle, the Liberal Democrat Parliamentary spokesman for Newcastle North, added: "I have written to Stagecoach and Nexus about the complaints we have been receiving and we hope they will respond positively.

"Our councillors are also inviting the bus company to meet directly with local residents in January."
