MORE LOCAL NEWS FROM PARKLANDS WARD1.28.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Mon 28th Jul 2008 :: RECYLING BINS Brown bins for garden waste have now been distributed throughout the ward. Monday is the new fortnightly collection day. Only houses with very small gardens do not have the brown garden waste bin. The blue bins for recyclables are now in parts of the ward and the roll-out to all other homes will take place over the next few months. Blue bins are also being collected on alternate Mondays. For further information contact the Bin Hotline on 278 3022 or 278 3023. :: GREAT PARK NEWS The drop-in event at St Aidan's in June updated residents on future plans for Newcastle Great Park (NGP). This included the NGP Consortium talking about their ideas for the new town centre. The school planning team from the Civic Centre talked about the new Brunton First School due to open in September 2009 and how to apply for places. There is a website where you can find out more about the Newcastle Great Park on www.newcastle.gov.uk/greatpark :: NETHERWITTON WAY BOLLARD The bus gate from Netherwitton Way to Greenfield Road still breaks down too often and is being misused by some motorists seeking to 'rat-run' through Brunton Park. Council officers with staff of the Great Park Consortium are trying to find more robust technology. Brunton Lane The speed of traffic here is a matter of great concern to local residents. Average speeds have been measured and are 38mph eastwards and 41mph westwards in this 30mph zone. Regular police enforcement is now planned. Further measures are being investigated to reduce the speed and volume of traffic. :: WIDEOPEN HOMES APPEAL REJECTED The Secretary of State has rejected an appeal by Bellway Homes and Gladedale Ltd for a 575 home residential development to the east of Wideopen and north of Gosforth Park. The grounds were the excessive traffic and congestion that would result together with the fact that North Tyneside already has a five year housing supply. :: PLANNED LOCAL IMPROVEMENTS In 2008/9 we plan to continue with the replacement of cobbled verges on Grange Estate, which includes identifying opportunities for replanting of street trees. The work on improving highways across the ward will continue, starting with Linthorpe Road and Langholm Road. Sections of the the Great North Road central guardrail will also be replaced. :: BRUNTON PARK SHOPS RESTRICTIONS The parking restrictions proposed will prevent allday parking during Monday to Friday, from 9am to 5pm. There will be a two hour limit with no return within one hour. The loading bay will stay as will the disabled bay. Planning permission has been granted for change of use of the greengrocer's/hardware shop to an estate agency. ::POLWARTH DRIVE TRAFFIC CALMING The traffic calming work will start in the autumn. :: NEW GRANGE CENTRE OPENS Footballer Alan Shearer returned to his old school in May to open the new Grange Centre at Grange First School. This extended school building can be used for community purposes.
