SPEED LIMIT CUT FOR HILLHEAD ROAD

12.00.00am GMT Fri 11th Jan 2008

The Lib Dem-run council is to cut the speed limit on Hillhead Road.

After responding to fears over road safety, the speed limit is to be cut from 40mph to 30mph along its whole length - from Stamfordham Road to Westlands.

Councillor Graham Middleton is pleased this action is being taken.

He says: "I have been campaigning for several years for a cut in the speed limit.

"A lot of young children use Hillhead Road to get to either West Denton Primary or St John Vianney.

"So any measures that the council can introduce to improve road safety in Denton Ward is welcome."

Focus Editor Peter Arnold says: "I live on Hillhead Road and so I see how fast a minority of motorists drive past my house.

"Fortunately the vast majority of drivers have respected the 40mph limit and I know they will stick to the new limit.

"I will be lobbying the police to ensure that the 30mph limit is enforced."
